Review: Clash of Lords 2: Guild Castle has been an entertaining venture for many gamers, yet the experience can feel overwhelmingly frustrating, especially for newcomers. As a newcomer myself, I found the initial phases enticing but rapidly faced the daunting reality of the game’s mechanics. Gaining heroes to level 120 may seem manageable, yet the requirement to evolve these heroes to surpass that threshold often mandates deep pockets or astronomical luck. As I navigate through battles, it becomes painfully obvious that seasoned players with fully evolved heroes dominate the playing field, leaving newer players like me feeling inadequate. The constant losses against evolved opponents can derail the enjoyment significantly, frustrating many as they succumb to losing streaks that mar their gaming experience.

The challenge extends beyond individual battles to guild events, where a lack of competitiveness can leave new players disheartened. The stark disparity between the old players who’ve had years to amass evolved heroes and those of us starting out creates a chasm that feels insurmountable. Having played video games since my childhood, I truly long for the nostalgic gameplay of the earlier iterations, such as the one from 2012 that offered a camp army mechanic. There’s a desire for the developers to breathe new life into those classic features—my willingness to invest money into the game proves my fondness for it, yet I often feel let down by the lack of support and development for older heroes and underappreciated characters.

Another pressing issue is the shift towards a pay-to-win model that permeates much of the game. Although I’ve put a reasonable sum into my account, I find that advancing without dipping into my wallet has become increasingly laborious. The loss of limited trading options that once allowed players to trade jewels efficiently has significantly impacted the game’s economy. It’s hard not to feel as if every aspect of progression necessitates more purchases, straining the perception of fairness within the game.

Many veterans of Clash of Lords 2 have echoed similar sentiments regarding glitches that plague gameplay. Personal experience highlights an alarming issue where, after putting effort into raids and battles, I would return to find a lack of rewards or gains, impeding the upgrade of hero cards. It’s these inconsistencies that could dampen a player’s love for the game, which I had cherished enough to rate five stars—yet desperate fixes demand lower ratings until resolution.

Complicated matchmaking systems pose an additional hurdle, as new players frequently encounter opponents far beyond their current capabilities. Being paired with players who boast multiple high-level heroes while I struggle with a limited selection can be discouraging, making the arena feel less like a competitive space and more like an overwhelming mismatch.

Despite these frustrations, the game has the potential to be enjoyable. Issues such as lagging or crashes can hamper any gaming experience, particularly when they persist despite a reliable internet connection and ample storage. The developers must prioritize resolving these flaws to retain their dedicated audience while attracting new players into the fold. Until those aspects are addressed, however, the game may find it difficult to reclaim its earlier glory or nurture a new generation of players who might otherwise invest their time and capital into the world of Clash of Lords 2.
