Review: PUBG Mobile has long held a prominent position in the gaming community, often drawing comparisons to its competitors like Free Fire. Many players, including myself, regard PUBG Mobile as the more immersive and engaging experience when compared to similar battle royale games. However, the game’s popularity has waned for some due to various technical issues that have affected gameplay over the years. Last year, I passionately advocated for PUBG Mobile, declaring it superior to many other games in its genre. Sadly, my enthusiasm has been dampened considerably as I find myself unable to enjoy the thrilling gameplay, primarily due to persistent lagging and performance issues.
One of the main reasons I decided to take a break from PUBG Mobile is the lag. Despite owning a capable device, the game frequently lags to the point where my phone overheats, severely compromising my ability to engage in gameplay. This frustrating experience has led to countless defeats, even against bots. Despite my repeated attempts to reach out to the developers through 20 to 30 complaints, I have received little to no response, leaving me frustrated and disappointed. The sense of community and accomplishment I once felt while playing has been overshadowed by crashing and freezing issues, prompting me to declare my hiatus from the game.
I have cherished the memories created while playing PUBG Mobile—engaging with friends, strategizing, and mastering the various mechanics. However, it feels like the developers are not considering the players’ perspectives, particularly in terms of optimizing the game. In my opinion, focusing on refining two or three core maps would lend more excitement and variety, rather than inundating players with an overwhelming number of options. Furthermore, I have been disappointed with the mechanics surrounding the recall system and the way players can be unfairly banned. I used cheats in the past purely for testing purposes, yet my account was banned despite the lack of any malicious intent. While their anti-cheat measures are commendable, the execution must be refined to consider reasonable circumstances.
Also, as a player who often utilizes different aspects of the UI, I find it disheartening that basic functionalities, like repositioning the timer and location bar in War Mode, aren’t more customizable. The overlap can obstruct essential elements like scoping, disrupting gameplay. Adding the ability to rearrange UI components would be a welcome enhancement. Amidst these complications, there remains an urgent need for more conventional gameplay mechanics, such as visible vehicle health systems and the addition of more fuel stations to enhance the overall experience. Currently, the lack of these features detracts from the strategic gameplay that once defined PUBG Mobile’s allure.
There is also an increasing dissatisfaction with server stability. Players are frequently met with “lost connection” or “server failure” messages during matches, leading to an overall frustrating experience. Furthermore, as a player from Africa, the absence of dedicated servers exacerbates these issues. In terms of updates, the last major patch felt overwhelmingly large in size, diminishing accessibility for players with lower-end devices. There are several features that seem out of reach for casual players, such as exclusive guns and in-game prizes. I genuinely hope the developers consider streamlining access to these elements, making it easier for all players to enjoy the full spectrum of game content.
In conclusion, while PUBG Mobile remains a significant player in the mobile gaming arena, necessary improvements must be addressed to regain the community’s enthusiasm. Instead of spending hours navigating convoluted menus and experiencing technical setbacks, I believe players crave a more refined and engaging gameplay experience. The love for the game is still evident, but the road to recovery hinges on how the developers choose to adapt and respond to the community’s needs.
